UWS Week VI: Team Of The Week

METUCHEN, NJ - We’ve passed the midway point of the 2017 United Women’s Soccer (UWS) season and the separation between the teams looking to capture the league championship and those falling behind is beginning to grow even larger. In the West, defending UWS champion Santa Clarita continued their undefeated run to start the campaign. In the Midwest, Grand Rapids notched two wins over conference contenders over the weekend. And in the East, two heavyweights faced off to a 1-1 draw, making the playoff run even more dramatic. Performances from those teams highlight the Week VI edition of the UWS Team of the Week.


UWS TEAM OF THE WEEK (WEEK VI)

  • F MARTI CORBY (GRFC Women) - goal & assist in 2-1 win over FC Indiana
  • F MADISYN PEZZINO (WNY Flash) - 2 goals & 2 assists in 4-1 win over Rochester
  • F CARISSIMA CUTRONA (WNY Flash) - 2 goals & 2 assists in 4-1 win over Rochester
  • MF DEYNA CASTELLANOS (Santa Clarita Blue Heat) - notched GWG on PK in 1-0 win over Houston
  • MF MADDIE SCHWARTZ (Lancaster Inferno) - controlled midfield in 3-1 win over NY Magic
  • MF FLO GAMBY (New York Surf) - tallied game-tying goal in 1-1 draw vs. NJCFC
  • MF BETHANY BALCER (GRFC Women) - hat trick as second half sub in 3-0 over Detroit
  • D/MF NATALIA ARIZA (Houston Aces) - controlled flow of play in 4-0 win over So Cal
  • D MICHAELA KOVACS (GRFC Women) - led defense in wins over FC Indiana & Detroit
  • D ALANA O’NEILL (New Jersey Copa FC) - led the defense in 1-1 draw vs. NY Surf
  • GK REBECCA RITCHIE (Real Salt Lake Women) - made nine saves in scoreless draw vs. Calgary
